More positives translates to more hospitalizations, and the need for more capacity at the Guam Memorial Hospital. As of Friday morning, the island's only public hospital had 65 patients admitted for the coronavirus, of that number 16 were receiving ICU-level of care, six of whom are on ventilators.

A total of 6 patients are at the COVID Isolation Facility at the SNU in Barrigada Heights.

"The numbers keep rising," reacted Lillian Posadas, GMH's administrator and CEO. "It just really makes us more we need to be more vigilant and be more exercising the precautionary measures as much as possible."

Posadas says as the numbers continue to peak they are continuing efforts to make room to treat COVID-19 infections. Currently there are five cares units designated to treat COVID patients. According to the numbers, combined there are 66 beds for COVID patients. And as we reported, the COVID census as of this morning is 65.

"We're looking to convert one of the regular medical surgical units, either the 3rd floor or 4th floor, that's our surgical floor that has about 33, 38 beds that we're looking to convert for strictly COVID. And so, these are all ongoing discussions that we're looking to see how we can best utilize and restructure our facilities so we can continue to accommodate individuals who need to be in the hospital because of this COVID infection," she detailed.

The need for capacity at GMH is evident as the non-COVID-designated hospital, the Guam Regional Medical City in Dededo, has been taking in virus infected patients. The COVID census at GRMC as of Thursday's night's Joint Information Center report was 11 hospitalized at GRMC with three in ICU and one on a ventilator.

At Naval Hospital in Agana Heights, there were three COVID patients hospitalized, with one in ICU. Posadas continues to plea with the community heed all necessary safety protocols such as a wearing a mask, staying away from family members and friends outside your household, practicing social distancing and stay safer at home.

"This is our reality," solemnly said Posadas. "These are our numbers, and this infection is out there."
