Simon Sanchez High School is celebrating a big milestone today, as they are one step closer to having a new home.

Guam Department of Education made the announcement this afternoon via zoom of the rebuild project entering phase two. It’s been years in the making and now the department has procured and officially selected architectural and engineering vendor TRMA (Taniguchi Ruth Makio Architects).

“This journey is seven years old, but we are very excited and very ready to continue, provide input and be very involved in this process,” Principal Carla Masnayon said.

This announcement signifies the start of the design process. TRMA is a local firm, with project leaders being two Guam public high school graduates.  Principal architect Mike Makio presented the design plans for the Shark’s campus.

“It’s really a synthesis of everything the Simon Sanchez community has been through for the last seven year,” he said. “Everything that can go wrong for a high school has gone wrong at Simon Sanchez and we have to back up and learn from those issues and put forth a campus that meets the needs and takes the Simon Sanchez community into the future.”
