After a rise in positive cases and few restrictions back in place, there has been no official word if public school campuses will continue with re-opening next week.

However, Guam Education Board chairwoman Maria Gutierrez informs KUAM on "The Link" this morning that the department has received the necessary personal protective equipment, or PPE in order to open come Aug. 17. The governor and Guam Department of Education Superintendent Jon Fernandez are meeting today to determine how GDOE will move forward and tomorrow that will be at the forefront for GEB's special meeting scheduled for tomorrow, Aug. 11 at 3 p.m.

"Mr. Fernandez, tomorrow will present his plan on whether to proceed or delay," Gutierrez said. "Our teachers are ready, we are all sensitive to the concerns, but we need to get moving. So to those and I understand over the weekend a lot of principals are calling me, texting me that a lot of those parents that chose the face to face are now switching over to hard copy or online and they are accommodating the parents' request, and that is what we need to know."

Gutierrez added that parents can still make changes. She said schools are standing by and ready to accommodate any request.
A majority of parents have chosen distance learning over the face to face instructional learning.
