The 35 air force service members who tested positive for COVID-19 visited as many as 30 local establishments, in apparent violation of restricted movement orders. Public Health is scrambling now to trace the group's stops that were mostly in Tumon, but also extends as far south as Talofofo, Agat and Santa Rita.

The list of establishments released late Wednesday by Public Health shows there were 11 dine-in stops, the rest were for restaurant take-out and convenience stores. Speaking today on KUAM's containing COVID multi-media show, the head of the Department of Public Health and Social Services surveillance Annette Aguon said they've launched expanded contact tracing.

"We actually even went out of an abundance of caution we added in two extra days to widen our investigation into and notifying the public so that's why we're saying between June 4 and June 13 even though we know the first case that was reported to us the symptom onset was around June 8 or 9."

She explained that the disparity in dates is because there were separate groups, with different work schedules, that went out at different times. She also confirmed that they have not been able to speak with the service members directly, and are relying on Air Force medical officials to pass on the information.

Public Health Medical Director Janna Manglona offers one explanation for why the Air Force has not been as forthcoming as before. She suggests the airmen may have lawyered up.

"Have you ever watched those crime shows where they bring the guy in and he's guilty as he can be and the minute he sits down he says I wanna have a lawyer present and that shuts down the interview," she questioned. "Well, imagine if, and I don't know all what's going on at the Air Force but I can imagine. Imagine you bring these guys in and they say I wanna speak to an attorney first."

In fact, Andersen 36th Wing Commander Brigadier General Gentry Boswell made it clear in a news conference this week that service members who disobeyed the restricted movement orders could be prosecuted under the uniform code of military justice.

Meanwhile, Public Health officials believe Guam may have dodged another bullet, 35 bullets in fact.

"We have a couple more days to get out of that 14 days, so we're monitoring that," Aguon said. "But I wanna add on to what Dr. Janna mentioned is that these establishments have really stepped up and the fact that we don't have like Dr. Janna said, no cases link to this cluster is a testament to the establishments going the extra mile ensuring that their staff, as well as the other patrons, are safe.

Aguon said contact tracing, especially of employees at the establishments continues, and testing is scheduled for next week.
