Sentencing pushed back for woman who took plea deal in major drug smuggling case

After hours of arguments from both parties in district court, Lucille Torres' sentencing hearing was pushed back for a second time.
Defense counsel Curtis Van de Veld fought for his client to receive less time behind bars. Torres entered a plea agreement for her role in a major conspiracy to smuggle drugs from California to Guam back in 2017. Torres went into cooperation with the government and because of this, Van de Veld feels the worthiness of her cooperation is higher than the government's assessment. U.S. Assistant Attorney Laura Sambataro bringing forward case agents to testify and detail the multiple drug investigations Torres has cooperated in. Torres faces five years with three years of supervised release.
Ultimately the court continued sentencing to next month, with further discovery to be exchanged on June 22.
