The Legislative Justice Committee held a public hearing on the confirmation of Dana Gutierrez to serve as the eighth superior court judge. Guiterrez was nominated by Governor Lou Leon Guerrero to fulfill the trial court position that opened up as Judge Michael Bordallo transitioned to the District Court of Guam.

The committee gathered this afternoon virtually for a public hearing and heard nearly twenty testimonies from family, friends, and colleagues expressing their support of Guiterrez taking the bench, with all in agreement that she has "deep passion for justice and law".

Guiterrez has practiced law for 22 years with her most recent work with Calvo, Fisher & Jacob law firm.

"I believe my career and how I live my daily life reflects my deep commitment to justice. My legal training and my experience have led me to this point; this is the next step not only in my career but also in my life," she expressed. "I am aware of the issues that currently face our judicial system that will lead many people to come before our court. I returned home to be of service to our island and I am ready to begin that next step, if this legislature deems me suitable. It would be an honor to serve the people of Guam."

If confirmed, Gutierrez will be assigned to Family Court II, a therapeutic court that oversees juvenile cases involving a drug or alcohol charge.
