580 sailors from USS Theodore Roosevelt quarantined in local hotels

As of today 580 sailors from the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt have been transported off the ship and into local hotels that have been designated as quarantine facilities. After days of negotiations between the local government, Guam Hotel and Restaurant Association and the military, eight local hotels have been contracted to be used as mandatory quarantine facilities for an estimated 3,000-3,500 sailors that test negative for COVID-19.
The aircraft carrier docked in Guam last Friday, after several sailors tested positive for the virus. On Friday, the Pentagon confirmed more than 100 of the crew were confirmed to have COVID-19 and currently in isolation. There are over 4,000 sailors aboard the Roosevelt, 20 of whom are originally from Guam.
Daily health evaluations are being conducted on every sailor in quarantine. GHRA President Mary Rhodes confirms one person was checked for flu-like symptoms and was sent to Naval Hospital for observation and isolation. She adds no one that has been quarantined has tested positive for the coronavirus.
“There is a system in place to check daily temperatures and health screenings and we will remove anyone who is displaying symptoms,” Rhodes said.
As for the sailors who are still aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt last night they sent a thunderous farewell to their Commander, Captain Brett Crozier. In videos that have since gone viral, hundreds of sailors cheered his name as he walked off the ship.
Capt. Crozier was the one who sounded the alarm for help to stop the spread of the coronavirus on the ship. A memo detailing the dire situation on the carrier was leaked to the media. On Friday, the Navy ousted him from his position.
Capt. Dan Keeler, has assumed command temporarily until such time as Rear Adm. Select Carlos Sardiello arrives in Guam to assume command.
