KUAM has learned the Chief of the National Guard Bureau will be on island tomorrow, but details on the visit are few and far between.
Multiple sources with the Guam National Guard confirm the visit of General Joseph Lengyel to Guam. Lengyel is an Air Force officer who has overseen the Guard bureau since 2016.
Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero had written Lengyel last year, asking Lengyel to federally recognize Adjutant Gen. Esther Aguigui's state promotion to colonel.
Lengyel responded, but when Adelup released the general's response, it was heavily redacted. Adelup said it was because the letter dealt with personnel issues.
KUAM tried to obtain an unredacted copy of Lengyel's letter, however, we were told by the Guard Bureau that our request would be met by August 2022 or sooner.
Guam Guard PIO Major Josephine Blas said she "cannot comment" on the General's visit and when we asked why she said "that was our guidance."
Meanwhile Department of Military Affairs quartermaster Lorilee Crisostomo tells KUAM the guard is preparing for a "high-level VIP" visit.
Sources tell KUAM General Lengyel is slated to meet with the Governor tomorrow morning, but Adelup did not confirm this.
The General is also expected to visit the THAAD missile defense site on Andersen Air Force Base.
