For the past several weeks, training has been ongoing for new emergency medical dispatchers.

Guam Fire Department Chief Daniel Stone said currently there are four new EMDs.

"The training consists of several certifications that they'll be going through, just training that they would need before they actually take a station up at the dispatch center so they can effectively do their job,"

Part of the training will also entail some on the job time with current dispatchers who will be able to share their knowledge to make them well-rounded EMDs.

"Ideally, we would like to have a certain amount of people on duty with each shift and bringing our staffing pattern up to 24 is where we need to be. So we're very excited to have them on board. Getting them through their required trainings, and eventually getting them out at the call center."

He adds that training is expected to be completed in mid-February of next year.
