Police arrest Austin Jay Sablan in Santa Marian Kamalen Park Crash

Police have arrested a man suspected of crashing into the Santa Marian Kamalen Park on Monday and fleeing the scene.
Twenty-Four-Year-old Austin Jay Sablan was charged with Theft of Property, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle and Leaving the Scene with Property Damage.
On Dec. 9, the day Santa Marian Kamalen was celebrated on island, Sablan was allegedly driving south in Merizo when he lost control of the vehicle, crashing into and damaging parts of the park. Court documents state witnesses identified Sablan, who fled from the crash.
The vehicle was a blue Nissan Pathfinder, which belonged to a man who lent it to his nephew, who then lent it to Sablan. Court documents state the victim filed a complaint with police the day after the crash.
The collision report, court documents state, amounted to more than $5,000.
Sablan also is accused of filling his tank up at a gas station on Nov. 26 and leaving without paying.
