New Route 8 traffic light coming to Barrigada
The wait is almost over.
Barrigada Mayor June Blas told KUAM News a newly built traffic signal light at the Purple Heart memorial highway and Toto, Canada Loop Road has been covered up with trash bags months after completion.
Mayor Blas explained the need for the light.
"There's a lot of accidents that happen there even daily and also the bus cannot get into the schools of Carbullido and San Vicente because they're (cars) not allowing them to get in," she said. "And so you know we thought that that was why it was an important place to install a traffic light."
KUAM has received calls from residents asking when the light will be fully operational. Mayor Blas said the light is currently being calibrated by Public Works and two project subcontractors so it will run smoothly in conjunction with other signal lights on Route 8.
She adds after calibration, the light will be run on "blink mode" to get drivers used to the signal light. The light will eventually be turned on for good "soon", Blas said.
