Months later GPD Central Command still not open
The ribbon was cut in June, but the doors remain shut to the new Guam Police Department Central Precinct Command in Sinajana.
The construction for the building was made possible through a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing Community Development Block Grant Program overseen locally by GHURA. Executive Director Raymond Topasna says an issue with the building's fire suppression system has kept the doors from opening.
"It's my understanding the contractor had to change out some high-pressure lines and they're in the process of doing that and we hope to have that done by next week," he said. "With a final inspection by the end of the week. Hopefully, it will pass muster and then we get an occupancy permit."
Topasna said they hope to have GPD move in by the end of the month or the beginning of the new fiscal year.
