"Support the troops" takes on some added significance this week, August 11th through the 17th.

Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero has declared it "Employee Support for the Guard and Reserve" week. As its name suggests, the organization's mission is to help deployed citizen soldiers with as many of their civilian responsibilities as possible, so that they can focus on their military roles.

"We want them to be as less stressful as possible," she said. "Worrying about their job, worrying about security for their family I think is something that we as a community need to further enhance and commit to so that they're not over there distracted with family issues and stress."

The ESGR is a nationwide volunteer organization under the department of defense that fosters the relationships between service members and their civilian employers. Guam has long had the highest per capita representation in the Guard and reserve, and hundreds of local businesses and individuals have pledged their support.
