Second corrections officer assaulted in a week
KUAM News has learned another corrections officer has been assaulted by an inmate at the Department of Corrections. The officer was punched in the face by inmate Mitch Martinez and received a cut to the lip. As per standard protocol, the officer was transported to Guam Memorial Hospital for assessment.
The prison has been placed on lockdown and visitation has been temporarily canceled.
This is the second assault of a corrections officer by an inmate this week. Detainee Bryan Matheus allegedly assaulted a corrections officer on Sunday.
According to court docs, Matheus kicked an officer's leg six times and punched the officer's head and face numerous times. The officer sustained bruising and swelling to his face, and a large bruise on his thigh.
Matheus said the officer struck him first on the chin and neck, but police noted no swelling or bruising on the inmate.
