Guam's Olympic Weightlifting Federation has been around since 2015. Coach Ed Molinos is the current Interim President of the federation. In 2017 Guam brought home 3 silvers and a bronze medal from the Hidilyn Diaz Weightlifting Open Championship held in the Philippines. At the 2017 Pacific Mini Games held in Vanuatu Jacinta Sumagaysay brought home Guam's only medal, a Silver in the 59kg weight class.

Sumagaysay said, "We get recognized a lot from the other countries. Especially by the presidents of different federations and they are just like do you have more lifters. Unfortunately every time we go out we can't bring our whole team but we are able to bring 2 or 3 athletes and they freak out on what we can do. They never knew that Guam had lifters so over the past years we are hoping to just bring it."

Team Guam has been training hard for the last 6 months in hopes of stepping onto the platform hitting their numbers and medaling at this year's games. Training sessions for the team run 2 - 3 hours a day, 5 days a week. Each athlete has dropped a weight class, but has still managed to keep their power. In the sport of Olympic Weightlifting it's a numbers game and Team Guam is locked in focused on their lifts and getting stronger at a lighter weight.

David Bautista said, "Heading towards the games I feel confident and my goal is to always make sure I do 110% during our program here. And I always put my heart out and I want to make sure that by the time we leave Guam I want to secure my lifts."

Guam participated in the 2018 Oceania Weightlifting Championships in New Caledonia making history for the island, garnering 4 medals. 1 gold, 2 silver and a bronze. The 2019 Pacific Games for weightlifting will also be combined with the Oceania Weightlifting Championships. So Team Guam will be represented in 2 major competitions at the same time. 3 of Team Guam's lifters have already qualified for the 2019 IWF World Weightlifting Championships.

Armie Almazon added, "Individually we are all extremely pumped. We of course want to beat our last platform numbers. So we are excited to compete with the best in the Oceania region. This all wouldn't be possible without the guys in the back because we all motivate each other and we pump each other up every lift. We give it our all 110% so we're pretty excited to go out as a team."
