It's a symbol of the Chamorro culture - today a replica of the sakman canoe was loaned indefinitely to the Guam Museum by Lotte Duty Free Guam. The replica took Traditions About Seafaring Islands president Ignacio Camacho 9 months to complete.

"We're fortunate that in the war between Britain and Spain, that the British lord Admiral Hanson discovered this flying proa between Tinian and Guam. He took it and his engineers were able to find the dimensions and the design. And now, today, after 300 some years, a 4000 year old design is available for us to share with the world," he said.

Lotte Duty Free Guam Store Chief Executive Officer Jaeha Kim said the sakman was created to depict the ingenuity of the Chamorro culture, and there's no better place to do so than at the Guam Museum.
