Just as Madeleine Bordallo introduced legislation over raises in the nation's capital, Adelup is criticizing Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo over her lack of action on federal issues pertaining to Guam, simply pleading for her to "please focus on your job."

In a release, the Governor's Office notes while Governor Eddie Calvo and his cabinet and staff actively work to resolve several federal issues, they claim Bordallo "has been silent." Calvo states "there are many challenges regarding our relationship with the federal government that we've had to rely on other people, not our elected delegate to Washington DC, to bring to the federal government.

Not only do we not have a vote, it seems we don't even have a voice." They say her latest press release adds constitutional restrictions to our local government and on our own people adding if it's indicative of where her attention is, then "perhaps it's time she step down from (her) congressional seat with its $174,000 per year salary and run for senator or Governor."

In response, Congresswoman Bordallo invites Governor Calvo to reconsider the actual intent of her proposed amendment calling it "a forward looking bill." She adds “I deeply regret that Governor Calvo’s view on this particular issue was used to diminish my work in Congress over the last 14 years, including the progress I have made working with him on issues important to Guam.

Truthfully, while Governor Calvo may have disagreed with me on this issue, it is unfortunate that his statements do not reflect the spirit of bipartisanship and the ability to respect each other even when we may not always agree. In 2014 Governor Calvo stated, “Respetu [respect] is among the chief cultural cornerstones of the Chamorro.” Today is a good reminder of that higher call to always respect each other. It is something everyone deserves.”
