It was a historic moment Tuesday night, as the Guam Education Board approved the long-awaited Guam Department of Education and Guam Federation of Teachers collective bargaining agreement.

GFT President Tim Fedenko shared, "I'm very very happy, six and half years without a teaching contract, I think the teachers and principals will be happy with this."

He thanked the 1,700 GFT members who contributed to the contract's completion, and also recognized DOE leadership and board chair Peter Alecxis Ada for pushing the issue forward. "If it becomes official, it changes, in all honesty the spirit of the contract basically stated that you had some principals who honored the contract and the spirit of that, but then you had some that didn't, so now those that don't have ramifications if they don't follow the contract."

The agreement will now go before the Governor and Attorney General for approval.
