In news from California, it's a case against a drunk driver who killed a mom and son in a wrong-way crash. Former Guam resident Shane McDonald apologized for his actions before learning his sentence.

It was an emotional day in court for both sides. A judge sentenced McDonald to 13 years and 8 months in prison. Monica Arrizon said, "To a song on the radio, to the flowers blooming in the garden, or the scene to a perfume. Something is always there to remind us of them." Her mother and brother both died in this crash last May. They were hit by McDonald seen, in a jail jumpsuit.

He was drunk and going the wrong-way on a San Diego freeway.

Arrizon said, "It seemed that our lives froze as we were stuck in the weird state of we need to be positive and mourn later because we needed to be strong for our nephew Julio, for our niece Carolina and our sister-in-law Angelica."

Three other relatives were hurt, but survived the crash. "I pray for the day that the memory of joy and happiness will be enough to ease the sorrow in our hearts," she said.

Then came the apology from McDonald, who changed their lives forever. "The choice I made that night is the one thing I regret every single day and will regret for the rest of my life. If I could only take back the actions I made that night I would do it in a heartbeat," he said.

Outside the courtroom, the family says today does not bring them closure. But they plan to move forward as best they can. "To me we just wanted justice to be served. And it wasn't so much to me, having 20 years, 30 years, just justice to be served. It wasn't going to bring our loved ones back."
