He's convicted of rape, but requested his doctor testify on his behalf before the court considers his sentencing. Former civilian police reservist James John Esperon was found guilty of raping a girl and sexually molesting her in 2011.

Today, Esperon requested a continued sentencing hearing so his doctor may testify. According to the defense, Esperson's condition needs treatment that cannot be provided at the Department of Corrections. Although Judge Michael Bordallo said the doctor's testimony is unnecessary, sentencing was continued to August 18.

Esperon faces 15 years to life for the charges.
