Guam - They may have faced some challenges at first, but the Department of Education is moving forward with its $100 million request for proposal for the repair and renovations to schools islandwide.

It was last year the Department of Public Works put out the RFP, which includes plans for the reconstruction of Simon Sanchez High School. The RFP was recalled however because of concerns from then-attorney general Leonardo Rapadas. DOE superintendent Jon Fernandez says that a new RFP is on the way, telling KUAM News, "So the agencies have been meeting on a weekly basis, we've decided that we're going to move ahead with Simon Sanchez first as our first investment, and in order to do that we wanted to make sure that AG and Mr. [Glenn] Leon Guerrero were able to come with us and tour the site so they understood the conditions on the ground."

Not only did they see conditions of the school, but they also heard concerns from students including the need for better restrooms, sporting facilities, and cafeteria. The RFP would provide much needed repairs to DOE schools, and is estimated to be released this coming March.
