Guam - The Oceania Regional Response Committee held their regional meeting over the course of two days in Saipan involving Guam EPA, Coast Guard Sector Guam and Region 9 EPA.

Guam Environmental Protection Agency administrator Eric Palacios said, "One key focus for Guam was the discussion of moving derelict vessels. These are vessels that have either sank in the past a couple going back decades or just vessel that are non operational and either cause and impediment to marine traffic and with the potential to release any type of contaminant whether it be fuel oil into our marine environment."

Palacios says on Guam there are about one dozen derelict vessels and while Guam EPA wants to focus on moving these vessels it ultimately comes down to funding. He says at this point they are establishing the guidelines, and removal priorities.
