Guam - Last Wednesday the Federated States of Micronesia passed a bill to ban the commercial fishing and trading of sharks in its exclusive economic zone, creating the second largest shark sanctuary in the world. It is estimated that 100 million sharks are killed every year in commercial fisheries with 30% of shark species threatened with extinction. Marine Mania will also be holding a Save Our Sharks video contest in Guam for students ages 14-21. To enter you can contact Joseph Casila at 487-4431.
