Guam - Police Chief Fred Bordallo says he not only plans on hiring more officers but getting GPD more interactive.
In line with the Governor Eddie Calvo's goal to put more cops on the streets, Chief Bordallo says they're well on their way to make sure that happens. "Right now there's going to be a total of about 42 that we want to have in terms of what the governor said he wants to increase law enforcement by 100," he shared.
But along with hiring more officers, the chief says he plans to balance that with hiring civilian employees. "Without sufficient civilian support staff the department won't be able to carry on our mission and we've been able to with the support of the governor rand lt governor fill in some critical positions," he said.
And from critical positions to the department's critical mission, the chief says there are multiple areas he plans to improve in 2015. "We're looking at some of those critical missions such as the crime lab, the forensic lab and also other areas in terms of our Statistical Analysis Section, our Planning and Research Section and also Records and ID Section where we get a lot of the brunt of service for the public we really want to invest in technology to make it more efficient so we can provide real good efficient service for the people," he said.
In terms of lessons learned from 2014 the chief says the power of social media. "I think we want to sort of reevaluate that too in terms of developing our web page and also having a little more accessibility with the public when it comes down to using some social media as a strategy so those are some of the kinds of things we've learned," he said.
Bottomline in the New Year, the chief says the public can look forward to more police presence not just on the streets but online.
