When emergencies happen, they are often the first faces people see in their most critical moments. This week, emergency medical services professionals are being recognized for their commitment to saving lives and serving their community.

Deputy Director of Public Health John Camacho highlights the importance of this week and also shares the theme, saying, "But today, we recognize the leading edge of public health, the emergency medical services. This year's theme, EMS, improving outcomes together resonates deeply within our mission at Public Health."

"I offer that EMS is not a siloed service, it is a critical pillar of our healthcare infrastructure. Whether it is a cardiac event, a traumatic event, a traumatic injury, or transport of our most vulnerable citizens during a crisis, the quality of care provided in those few minutes, the golden hour, dictates the long-term health outcomes for our people."

"You are the embodiment of public health in action. As we sign this proclamation, we are committing ourselves to support these men and women, not just with words, but with the resources, the training and the recognition they deserve."

"To our EMTs, paramedics, and dispatchers. You are the hands and feet of our healthcare system. On behalf of the Department of Public Health and Social Services, thank you for your bravery, your professionalism, your dedication, and your service to saving lives."

Acting HPLO administrator Breanna Sablan gives her perspective of the importance of Emergency Medical Services Week and the lives touched by EMS everyday.

"We gather here today to formally recognize a group of individuals to operate at the very intersection of crisis and hope. As we approach National EMS Week scheduled for May 17 through the 23rd, this proclamation serves as more than just a formal document. It is a testament to the dedication, resilience, and the heart of our responders. This year's theme, Improving Outcomes Together, perfectly captures the reality of our mission," she said.

"When we work together, we don't just respond to emergencies, we change the trajectory of lives...to our EMS professionals, thank you for your courage. Thank you for your sacrifice, and thank you for your unwavering commitment to improving outcomes together."

Today's proclamation signing serves as a reminder of the critical role emergency medical services professionals play in our island community every single day. From emergency response teams to paramedics, EMT's, dispatchers, and healthcare partners, this week is dedicated to recognizing their commitment, sacrifice, and lifesaving care.
