Guam - By the end of the month the Department of Education hopes to identify the four schools which will pilot the pre-kindergarten program. DOE superintendent Jon Fernandez said, "We will give them an update with the regional meetings we held with our stakeholders and we'll recommend some schools for them to consider as part of the first phase and once we get the approval we will go back out and due the activities needed to get the program's up and running."
According to Fernandez the parent input was positive with regards to the benefits of having more pre-k slots available to the community. He adds that they spoke on the importance of quality of early education versus extended daycare opportunities. Fernandez says the pre-kindergarten classes will be implemented in the upcoming school year.
