Guam - It's the first of many events to showcase the positive things about our island's youth. Southern High School students and Inetnon Gef Pa'go have teamed up to put together the performance, Taifinakpo: A Rendition of The Chamorro Legend of the Flame Tree, which brings to light themes of life, peace and love, while addressing the recent school violence captured in social media.
Students have also organized a wave in response, which will take place tomorrow at 5pm at Chief Quipuha Park. The events were the focus of Speaker Judi Won Pat's weekly address, as she said, "The violence, and the glorification of violence through electronic voyeurism, are a tragedy that we as a community can come together to productively challenge, and remark on in creative ways. Such as the students of Southern High School and Inetnon Gef Pa'go are accomplishing: a positive confrontation out of the distressing occurrence, in order to acknowledge it in its importance."
Taifinakpo will be performed at Southern High School's fall production, tomorrow and Friday at 9:30am, and Saturday at 7pm.
