Guam - Guam's waters has claimed yet another life, this time in the southern waters of Merizo. Village mayor Ernest Chargualaf told KUAM News, "I proceeded up to the area and I was able to speak to one of the firefighters that mentioned that a couple of guys went out fishing and one of them went away from the group and the last thing they heard was, 'Help me, help me!'"

According to Guam Fire Department spokesperson Lieutenant Ed Artero the search began after the report was made at around 3:45 Friday morning. The individual, whose name has yet to be released, was with a small group, fishing in the Achang Bay area.  "I gave my condolences to the one guy claims to be the brother and I gave my condolence - 'I am sorry for your brother' - and there was some ladies there believe one of them was the sister," recalled the mayor. He added that they're not from his village, saying, "From some other place, but I believe they are Micronesian."

According to Mayor Chargulaf the fisherman was an avid swimmer however on this occasion he was not using any fins which could have helped while swimming in the treacherous waters. "The tide, I believe, there was a change of tide the tide was incoming but in the incoming tide I know that it pulls towards the channel the outgoing it pulls westward towards coco's island but there is some areas where you can't stand," he said. "But the water is treacherous - it could happen to the best swimmers."

Artero says that the body of the fisherman was recovered Friday morning around 6:30.
