Guam - The Public Utilities Commission has approved a 17% increase to the cost of water effective Monday, December 1. This means that residential customers may see a $3-$8 increase on their monthly bill, but according to CCU chairman Simon Sanchez the bulk will be felt by commercial customers. He adds that this increase is part of a scheduled gradual rate increase over 15 years which allows GWA to comply with a court order to improve the water system. Sanchez says that the increase will pay for the borrowing which is anticipated to reach $750 million by 2017.
