Guam - Governor Eddie Calvo is back on island and says he's moving forward with implementing the competitive wage act through the recently signed public law of Hay pay raises for cabinet members and elected leaders. Calvo tells KUAM he's working with his chief fiscal policy advisor to possibly get the checks out before Christmas.

"But we feel very confident, she feels very confident, our fiscal team feels very confident that managing the financial resources of this government, that with these pay increases with the hay plan finally being instituted, we'll have no problem also paying our bills and paying tax refunds, we've been doing it for the last four years and we're going to continue doing it," he said.

Bill 1-8-s was passed by a majority vote and signed by then Acting Governor Ray Tenorio last week. As part of the implementation, cabinet members and elected leaders would receive retroactive payments dated back to January.
