Guam - Speaker Judi Won Pat will be writing to the Department of Navy and Guam's State Historic Preservation Officer over concerns involving the disregard for the healing practices of the island's traditional healers.
It was last Friday during a meeting where NAVFAC officials announced that healers would only have one day to collect clippings of plants on a 25-acre property they intend to level early next year.
"Of course the disappointment, we know things are moving forward, we're not saying we're fighting this, we're just saying there has to be some respect toward our traditions and our culture and definitely through the suruhanas and suruhanus, our traditional healers and that they really need to be a little more respectful of that especially since they didn't give a specific date only between February and March," he said.
As part of the limitations, healers will not be allowed to dig or pull trees at the root.
