Guam - It was early in the summer when loan documents funding the renovation and refurbishment of the Old Guam Legislature building were finalized and signed off by the governor. And according to the Guam Legislature's executive director Vince Arriola, within the next two weeks, the Guam Preservation Trust should be announcing a bid for the project.

He told KUAM News, "Certainly it's going to be much modern, a lot more organization, a lot more spacious especially in terms of the session hall and public hearing room and just the fact that we're back in the original building is going to bring a lot more status to the Guam Legislature."

The Guam Preservation Trust is taking the lead on the project. It's been over two decades since lawmakers have utilized the Old Congress Building. Arriola expects a groundbreaking to take place sometime in February of next year with an 11 to 12 month construction timeframe. In the meantime, he adds the Guam Legislature is still looking at certain possibilities as to what to do with it's other asset in the Manuel Guerrero Administration Building in Hagatna. The building is owned by the Guam Legislature and formerly housed the Department of Administration and the Department of Education.
