Bills aim to crack down on copper wire theft

Bill 395 introduced by Senator Brant McCreadie would increase penalties for scrap metal businesses who fail to properly follow reporting requirements.

Guam - A pair of bills aimed at cracking down on copper wire thefts and the sale of it are up for a public hearing this week. Bill 395 introduced by Senator Brant McCreadie would increase penalties for scrap metal businesses who fail to properly follow reporting requirements.  Bill 404 meanwhile would establish mandatory inspection and certification of all nonferrous metal property prior to a transaction of sale at a scrap metal business.

The legislation was introduced by McCreadie and Senator Dennis Rodriguez, Jr. The public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, November 18 at 9:30am in the Legislature Public Hearing Room.
