Guam - Governor Eddie Calvo has declared the island in a state of mourning to honor the late Senator Jess Q. Torres. 


"This is sad news for Ray & Notch and Christine & me. Senator Torres was a good man with a heart of gold. We will miss him very much," Governor Calvo said.


Torres was not only a Senator but also served twice as the Executive Manager of the Guam International Airport Authority as well as on the GIAA Board of Directors multiple times. Prior to his passing he was the Vice Chairperson of the GIAA Board.


Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo also joins the island mourning the loss of the late Senator, “ Jess was a loyal son of Guam who worked hard to improve the lives of our people. I extend my sincere condolences to the entire Torres family on their loss. My thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. He will be deeply missed,” Bordallo said.


The Governor ordered the flags of the United States and Guam to fly at half staff at all government locations until his funeral.  He is asking residents and businesses flying the flags to extend the same honor.
