Guam - The Guam Police Department is conducting a death investigation after human remains were discovered in the village of Dededo.
Residents living in the Fatima Street area of Dededo made the shocking discovery late Monday, as GPD spokesman Officer AJ Balajadia said, "Two females were cleaning the area and came across what appears to be human skeleton remains." The women appeared to be clearing the land to begin planting vegetables. They immediately called the Mayor's Office, which in turn called the Guam Police Department. This morning detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division were scouring the area for clues as to what might have happened.
Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Aurelio Espinola was also on scene this morning and confirmed with KUAM that they are in fact human remains. "All of the bones were collected an autopsy will be conducted to hopefully determine the sex as well as the cause of death," Balajadia said.
For the time being, the Guam Police Department is asking for the public to come forward if they have any information about the human remains or have a missing friend or family member. "If anybody has any loved ones or individuals that they've reported missing or they haven't seen in awhile and hasn't reported missing please contact the Guam Police Department we will go ahead and take a report and compare the notes that we have from the doc to what we have and see if we are able to determine who this actually was," said Balajadia.
