Guam - Guam ushers in Veterans Day with the celebration of the nation's 39 newest fellow Americans. At the District Court of Guam this morning a special Veterans Day naturalization ceremony was held in honor of all military veterans. The keynote speaker during today's ceremony was Joint Region Marianas Commander Rear Admiral Bette Bolivar, who is a descendant of immigrants.

"My grandfather and my father sat where you are today, they were naturalized citizens and joined the US military in the Philippines; I know like you they worked hard and dedicated themselves to ensure the best possible life for their families," she expressed. "Had it not been for them, I would not be here today, and I'll just tell you my dad joined the military back in and his journey to become an American citizen took 15 long years."

Commander Bolivar was seven years old when her father became a US citizen. She said her dad was her hero and her inspiration. America's newest citizens who took the oath of citizenship today hail from countries of France, Palau, Philippines, South Korea and Thailand.
