A Guam Police Department officer is facing charges following an off-duty altercation at a Tamuning retail store.

Police arrested 31-year-old Aubrey Shaniece Benavente Pangelinan Sanchez on May 13 for assault and official misconduct. According to GPD, officers responded to a disturbance Tuesday night where a verbal dispute escalated into a physical altercation involving a few individuals.

Investigators say CCTV footage identified Sanchez as the primary aggressor. She was off-duty at the time.

Sanchez was later booked and confined Thursday, but was released that afternoon. GPD confirms she has been placed on administrative leave, and an internal affairs investigation is now underway.

Her case has also been forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General for review.
