Different uniforms. One response. Airport police, Customs, Marshals and Anderson Police are pushing through Special Enforcement Tactics (SET) training, preparing for the moments where every second counts.

So what is SET? Instructor Lieutenant Dean Delgado explained, saying, "SET is Special Enforcement Tactics which the airport police had adopted from the Marshals Judiciary which was founded by Joey Terlaje.”

An elite, multi-agency training—with just 14 officers. Lieutenant Dean Delgado said, “Customs, probation, Marshals, Air Force Security and Airport Police.”

The 8-week program pushes them through high-level tactics—but getting in takes the best of the best. “The Airport Police will do an invite to multi agencies…they send their best officers… they have to shoot 296 in shooting and pass the PT test," said Delgado.

Among them—the only female in the program. Officer Kaylie Pinaula said, “This training offers one of the highest levels of certification that any law enforcement can recieve and I'm glad to be one of the female going through this training.”

For many—like Deputy Marshal Xavier Naputi—the drive to be here runs deep. “Growing up and watching my family be in it… it made me want to do it… my support system… everyone that has gone before me.”

But once you’re in—the standard never drops. “SET holds a high standard… everything is 110% all day every day," said Naputi.

And it’s not just about individual skill—it’s about building a team. Customs Officer Zachary Santos said, “The SET program… it’s building operators, building leaders… having them work together as a team… that will be the most challenging portion of it.”

For Anderson Police Officer Gabe Aguon—it’s about breaking new ground. “I’ve always wanted to be the first in my family… to accomplish this… that means something to me.” And the mindset to get through it. “For me it’s simple—never quit… once your mind gives up, it’s done.”

Because at its core, “SET is all about brotherhood… respect… the connections we make along the way," said Naputi.

And when it’s over—they return stronger. “They return back to their agencies… they use them as an asset," said Delgado.

But for many—what they gain here—goes beyond training. Naputi said, “Hard work beats talent, when talent refuses to work hard.”
