Guam - If you happened to drive along Route 16 in Barrigada today you may have experienced some delays in traffic - that's because the Navy was repairing a broken water line. According to Joint Region Marianas public affairs officer Lt. Tim Gorman, the Navy and DZSP-21 were on scene Wednesday night up until today to evaluate the 100-x-25 hole caused by the waterline break.

"I wouldn't call it a sinkhole, it obviously was a big pipe, about 1,000 gallons per minute were gushing into that space and to repair it, the pipe was actually 10-feet below the surface of the road and the crack was on the bottom part of the pipe so they had to dig down about 15 feet below the pipe to actually repair it," he stated.

Lt. Gorman adds a temporary fill will be put in place and expects by tomorrow morning traffic to resume back to normal. He adds because of the broken water line, the navy will repair other broken spots in the road that was exposed when they do the permanent fix.
