Women's Chamber postpones gubernatorial debate
by
Guam - While their first official face off didn't go on as planned, both gubernatorial candidates still have fighting words for each other outside the debate. As we reported, the Guam Women's Chamber of Commerce had postponed their "Conversations with the Candidates" event due to a scheduling conflict. In a release, former governor Carl Gutierrez says he's not only disappointed Governor Eddie Calvo wouldn't be meeting him face-to-face but that the organization did not go forward with the scheduled debate with or without his opponent. He further states "Governor Calvo does not answer to the public and is not easily accessible to everyday people." Calvo says its unfortunate there was a scheduling conflict but it's part of the job of being both a governor and a candidate.
"I look forward to these debates and these forums, but also I got to do my job as a governor, so I'm hoping that the temperature could calm down and we don't get this thing overly politicized," he said.
Calvo says the scheduling conflict had to do with meeting with the nurses and professionals at the Guam Memorial Hospital yesterday in regards to announcements on pay and financial expertise assistance. Calvo says he hopes instead his opponent can focus on the issues and not point fingers on who is open to the public. KUAM News reached out to the Gutierrez campaign manager for an interview, however we have yet to receive a response.
