Guam - Now that the school year has started and the rush to get our island's public schools open on time is over the Department of Education is now focusing on the collective bargaining agreement with the Guam Federation of Teachers. Both negotiating teams are exchanging the proposed ground rules which DOE's lead negotiator Jon Fernandez says they hope to agree upon by the end of this week.

"Our expectations is that negotiations on a new teacher contract will probably begin we are setting a date for September 11, 2014 so that is our first meeting so we are looking forward to getting the process started at this time it's just really setting the frame work for how these negotiations will proceed," he explained.

The last negotiated collective bargaining agreement with GFT expired in November of 2011.
