Guam - The Guam Memorial Hospital will have to appear before the Legislature this week for an oversight hearing. During debate on an appropriations bill for GMH during session last week, Healthcare Committee Chair Senator Dennis Rodriguez, Jr. announced he would hold the hearing. You may remember several senators expressed concerns about appropriating any further money to the hospital in light of an audit released by the Guam Office of Public Accountability. The audit of GMH’s finances in fiscal year 2013 described how expenditures steadily increased in the last 5 years while revenues declined. Auditors also noted how operating losses since 2009 jumped from $6 million to $34 million in FY13. The oversight hearing is scheduled for Wednesday at two o’clock in the afternoon.
