Guam - It marked one of the largest graduating classes in a single commencement since the University of Guam established fall and spring ceremonies 15 years ago.
On Sunday almost 300 students received their undergraduate and graduate degrees in front of a packed Field House.
Gerwin Pineda was named the spring 2014 valedictorian. He is a double major in mathematics and computer science and if the first mathematics major named valedictorian in the history of UOG. "To my professors who taught me everything and helped out when I didn't understand something to my classmates fellow math majors and of course to my parents who supported me and helped me out when I needed it thank you congratulations to spring class of 2014," he announced during his speech.
Palau president Tommy Remengesau, Jr. delivered the keynote address. The university also conferred an honorary Master of Micronesian Traditional Knowledge to Candido Babauta Taman for his lifetime of work promoting the music, languages and cultures of the Marianas and Micronesia.
