Little fire ant still present, despite quarantine
by
Guam - An update on the situation at the War in the Pacific National Historic Park's Asan Unit - just last week conducted additional survey of the site and determined that the little fire ant is still present in the area that was quarantined earlier this year.
Park ranger Ben Hayes said, "We are now applying a pesticide on the ground in that area to continue to mitigate the little fire ant presence we've also determined that the area that's being closed can be basically reshaped much smaller than what is was before."
He says that they continue to monitor for the little fire ant throughout the park and will conduct additional surveys in areas where the LFA could be present. As of right now they have only been confirmed in the area closed off. He adds that they have received funding from the us forestry service to mitigate their green waste and will be initiating a contract to get rid of the waste that has the coconut rhinoceros beetle.
