Guardsman charged with stealing government property

Guam - Another member of the military has been charged in federal court with stealing from the federal government. Anthony P. Mariano was indicted today on charges of theft of government property, fraudulent claim against the United States and making a false statement to a federal government agency.
Mariano allegedly submitted a bogus lease agreement to the federal government claiming he was paying $1,800 rent every month to a relative. In November 2012, he also allegedly lied to an Army Criminal Investigation Command special agent and claimed he made monthly cash payments to his relative for rent between September 2005 and November 2012.
Mariano is accused of fraudulently receiving more than $87,000 in Overseas Housing Allowance funds. He is scheduled to answer to the charges on March 13.
