Guam - A local non-profit group is looking to gather scraps of material and other sewing tools for operation sewing basket.

According to Ayuda Foundation's Jennie Leon Guerrero, the materials will be sent to the FSM where young mothers will learn to sew to support their families as the FSM struggles with high teenage pregnancy and drop out rates.

"We need patterns too. We need thimbles and threads and zippers and ric rac and polyester fill and all kinds of things. We just need everything in the sewing basket that you're no longer sewing with," she said.

Leon Guerrero notes that the Women's Council of Chuuk received a grant to buy the sewing machines.
