Guam - If you're looking for family fun for the weekend, Guam Coastal Management, the Guam Fire Department, the Department of Agriculture Forestry Division and other partners invite you to free fire prevention workshops.

Special projects coordinator Christine Camacho says there's something for everyone from staged demos for compost and mulching for mom and dad and a kids' corner with fun activity books for the youth. "It's to promote alternatives to burning because on Guam we all like to burn everything and unfortunately the big impact to that is that sometimes those fires get away from us and then we have issues with wild land fire and so we're really trying to promote that fire is really not the way we need to be going here. There are alternatives to getting rid of the stuff we don't' really need," he said.

The first workshop kicks off tomorrow at the Santos Memorial Park in Piti from 10 a.m. to noon with other workshops scheduled throughout March.

Smokey the Bear and Sparky the Firedog are also slated to make an appearance.
