The U.S. Coast Guard and partner agencies continue search efforts for six missing crew members from the cargo vessel Mariana offshore Saipan.

Officials say a Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point HC-130 Hercules aircraft spotted debris over the weekend, including a partially submerged life raft, about 95 nautical miles northeast of the overturned vessel.

By the start of this week, a U.S. Air Force 31st Rescue Squadron aircraft arrived on scene, deploying pararescuemen, divers, and boats. The team confirmed the overturned vessel as the cargo ship Mariana.

Divers are now conducting a comprehensive subsurface evaluation of the vessel’s exterior, and if a viable access point is located, crews may deploy an underwater remotely operated drone to further investigate.

Search crews have covered more than 75,000 square nautical miles so far, with multiple international partners assisting, including the U.S. Navy, Japan Coast Guard, and Royal New Zealand Air Force.

The 145-foot U.S.-flagged cargo vessel was first reported Wednesday after its starboard engine became disabled with six people aboard about 125 nautical miles north-northwest of Saipan.
