January proclaimed Cervical Heath Awareness Month
More than 12,000 women throughout the nation are affected with cervical cancer and here at home a total of 53 cases were diagnosed between 2007 and 2011 - 12 of whom lost their lives to the deadly disease.
Guam - More than 12,000 women throughout the nation are affected with cervical cancer and here at home a total of 53 cases were diagnosed between 2007 and 2011 - 12 of whom lost their lives to the deadly disease. And in order to promote early detection and regular checkups, January was declared Cervical Health Awareness Month before dozens of professionals in the health industry this morning.
"This January, Guam's cancer prevention groups will focus on educating women about the importance of the Pap test as a screening tool for cervical cancer and about Human Papillomavirus vaccines that can further reduce the burden of this devastating disease," said Lieutenant Governor Ray Tenorio.
He urged all women to seek information about the tools available to treat and prevent cervical cancer.
