A handful of locals and visitors stopped by one of Guam's most-visited beaches in island after being indoors for the last couple of days due to Typhoon Sinlaku. They made sure to stay safe and stay out of the water, but used the opportunity to see the storm's damaging effects to the Tumon beach.

One island resident, Christian Flores of Yigo, says he and his family are still trying to get through the challenges left behind the storm. Despite the challenges, he says he brought this family out to Ypao Beach to search for trinkets in the sand, hoping to bring a sense of normalcy after the storm.

"Honestly, we are just cleaning up and getting through every day," he said. "We use a butane stove, so not really worried about all that, we're fine without power really, but water is more valuable, right? "I just wanted to take the family out and look for shark's teeth and all that," he added.

While locals continue to recover, visitors to the island experienced the storm firsthand. One family on a weeklong vacation from Japan shared when they arrived and how they felt, saying they've now been here for five days, respectfully adding, "Atsui desu ne! It's very hot."

And despite the island climate, they were making the best of it. While there were people at the beach watching the waves, the public did not dare to go in the water, heating the moment to avoid the life threatening storm search. We urge that you please stay safe.
